To register an Indigenous NGO at Solfix Africa, it’s essential to understand the registration process and requirements as laid out by Ugandan law. Indigenous NGOs are exclusively controlled by Ugandan citizens and must follow specific steps to be legally recognized and operate.

Key Requirements for Indigenous NGO Registration in Uganda

  1. Application Forms. Complete Form A and Form D, signed by at least two founding members.
  2. Formal Registration Request. Draft a request letter to the Executive Director of the NGO Bureau, specifying NGO’s objectives, areas of operation, and permit duration (up to 5 years).
  3. Incorporation Certificate. Submit a certified or notarized copy of the Certificate of Incorporation from Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB).
  4. Annual Work Plan & Budget. Provide a detailed work plan and budget for the intended permit duration.
  5. Governing Documents. Attach a copy of the NGO’s Memorandum and Articles of Association, including a dissolution clause outlining the procedure and asset distribution if the organization winds up.
  6. Organizational Structure. Include a clear chart showing the NGO’s governance structure.
  7. Proof of Payment. Submit proof of payment for the prescribed registration and permit fees.
  8. Funding Sources. Provide a statement detailing the organization’s sources of funding.
  9. Identification Documents. Include copies of valid IDs (National ID or Passport) and passport-sized photos of at least two founding members.
  10. Authorizing Minutes. Submit minutes, a signed attendance list, and a registered resolution authorizing the NGO’s registration with the NGO Bureau.
  11. Staffing Compliance. Attach a statement confirming compliance with Section 45 of the NGO Act, 2016, regarding staff.
  12. Local Recommendation. Secure a recommendation from the District Non-Governmental Organizations Monitoring Committee (DNMC) where the NGO’s headquarters will be located.
  13. Government Ministry Recommendation. Obtain a recommendation from the relevant Ministry or Government Agency.
  14. Data Protection Certificate. New NGOs must submit a data protection certificate within a month of receiving their operating permit.
